”Did I stumble my way onto a movie set instead of the actual university?”
Kristen could only assume as much, because really what were the odds she would stumble into a food fight while trying to get a meal after kickboxing practice? She hadn’t had any more classes for the day so she finally decided to go back to the gym to get in some more training. She was truthfully glad she’d gone since it had cleared her lungs and gave her a bit more energy for the day. Besides, the facilities in the university’s gym were much better than anything Kristen had seen in Maine. Although she figured that should be the case considering this was a school for children of gods.
”Kids are still kids I guess. Even university kids.”
Everything had been peaceful at first, but it didn’t take long for Kristen to suddenly be caught in the center of a massive food war. She had no idea how long it would take for the teachers to calm everything down, but she was not about to wait. Instead Kristen grabbed a tray and was currently using it as a shield to defend herself from most of the thrown cuisine. As she was making her way through the chaos, she noticed one girl about to get hit with a rather messily made hamburger. Leaping into action, Kristen lunged forward and knocked the incoming projectile from the air. She had no idea where it went, but she was busy watching for other flying objects.

Emma had been hesitant to return to the dining hall since her last visit had not gone so well. But she was stuck here for now and she did need to eat. Although, there had been a few times when she hadn’t had food, or it was cut to one meal a day. Everything wasn’t all perfect at the orphanage, and she had long ago accepted that.
The brunette placed her hands over her grumbling stomach, as if it would somehow silence it. She adjusted her sunglasses before taking a deep breath and entered the cafeteria. Everything seemed fine, and the students that had caused her some trouble last time were nowhere to be seen. Emma swiftly got a tray and some food and managed to grab a seat at an empty table without any complications. She bowed her head and inwardly began to say grace before eating when she was interrupted by a boy standing on top of one of the tables and chucking his entire tray across the room while someone else shouted: “Food fight.”
Emma’s grey eyes were wide with a mix of shock and fear. Shock, because she honestly couldn’t believe that these would actually be happening in a university with grown children. Fear, because she was beginning to think each trip she took to the dining hall would result in her getting hit with food. She felt frozen in the moment as she watched as students mercilessly threw their food indifferently across the room.
Part of her wanted to get under the table to hide, the other part eyed the door and just wanted to get out as quickly as possible. She picked up her muffin and abandoned the rest of her food. As she tried making her way through the chaos when someone jumped in front of her and saved her from impact with a flying hamburger. She couldn’t help but let out a tiny shriek. “Uh, t-thank you. Um, yes, I, uh. In my experience yes.” She said voice shaky. The whole room looked different with a tinted view behind her sunglasses.

”No problem. Also thanks for telling me. Next time I’ll bring an actual shield.”
It was meant as a joke, although part of Kristen was seriously considering it when she had to smack yet another object out of the air before it hit them. She glanced back at the girl she’d leapt to defend. While Kristen was a tad curious about her wearing sunglasses indoor, overall the girl seemed kind. If Kristen was being blunt too- which she typically was- she’d also add meek to that description. However she was swiftly learning not to judge books by their covers. Like how a pristine, advanced university dining hall could erupt into a grade school food fight in a matter of minutes. Anything was possible, or at least Kristen figured. She glanced towards the exit and figured they should both head towards it at least. Somehow Kristen had a feeling that the girl wasn’t exactly thrilled with the chaos. Luckily she could relate, and hopefully get them out of there without too much of a mess.
”Hey, follow me! We’re going to get out of here.” Kristen stated, already maneuvering to have a clear shot for the door. ”Running would probably be the best thing. Here,” Kristen held her hand out to the girl, ”Take my hand. We’ll rush on three, ok?”

Emma stood frozen like a statue. She honestly couldn’t believe she was in this situation again. There had been one food fight back at the orphanage and it was the last food fight to ever occur. No one messed with the nuns, and the fools that started the mess learned that the hard way. It seemed as though at this place discipline and structure was lacking. She heard the girl speak, but it was kind of hard to focus with the chaos that was going on. Her grey eyes jumped from side to side watching kids diving all over the place and covered in food. All she had wanted to do was eat. She looked at the muffin in her hand and before she could even blink it had been knocked out with a peace of flying debris. She watched -- in what felt like slow motion – her beloved muffin go crashing to the dirty dining hall floor.
She felt as though she wanted to cry, but before she could the girl who had saved her was talking again. Something about leaving. Emma was on board. She took the girl’s hand and waited until the count of three. They made a beeline dash to the exit but before they could make it to the door she heard someone shout behind them: “Prisoner’s escaping! Get them.” And before Emma could even turn back to look at who was saying it a large majority of the student’s in the cafeteria turned to face their new targets.

“Prisoner’s escaping! Get them.”
Kristen was glad the girl had taken her hand to run instead of blow her off. Although after they’d reached three and sprinted, it was apparent they’d drawn the attention of others. Kristen grit her teeth when she heard someone behind them shout. She had no doubt they’d quickly be bombarded by food, so she pushed the girl ahead of her.
”Keep going! Don’t stop!”
Kristen already figured they’d get hit, but she was determined to keep as much of it away as she could. Which was why she turned with tray in hand to swat as many things out of the air as she could. As expected a few managed to make it past Kristen’s guard and splatter on her shirt and pants, but for the most part she played an efficient defender. Once they reached the door, Kristen practically shoved the girl out of the dining hall and slammed the door behind her. She could hear a few thuds on the door as flying food smacked against it in a vain attempt to hit them. Kristen sighed in relief and slumped a little, putting the tray down next to the door.
”Well that was,” Kristen paused to think of a good word to describe the insanity, ”Different.” It was the only word she could come up with at the moment. ”Anyways, we should probably get out of here before the teachers come. Oh, my name is Kristen by the way.”

Emma hadn’t realized that she had stopped. The girl’s voice snapped her out of her head as she was pushed in front to take the lead. The girl was swatting food away and for the most part – with a few exceptions – they had seemed to make it to the door with not much of a mess on them. She was relieved when they made it outside of the cafeteria. Emma looked down at her shaking hands, why had this girl been so kind to help her out when there were so many others that she could have chosen?
The brunette gave a small nod, “Mhmm.” She said still tried to compose herself. She wasn’t made for this. Whatever this was. She missed her routine. It was certain. This was so…uncertain. She rubbed one of her arms and looked over at the girl when she mentioned teacher. “O-O-Okay.” She was not about to get in trouble for something she was merely a victim of.
She started to walk away from the dining hall and gave a faint smile to the girl, “Emma. T-thanks again.” She felt her stomach grumbling and she wrapped her hands immediately on her belly. “So much wasted food.” She mumbled to herself. Now what was she going to eat?

“Mhmm. O-O-Okay.”
Kristen stole a glance at the girl as they hurried away from the chaos beyond the dining hall doors. Without even realizing it, Kristen felt herself growing softer towards Emma. If she noticed, she’d likely pin the blame on how nervous and shy the girl appeared.
“Emma. T-thanks again.”
Kristen waved the thanks off with a gesture of her hand and threw the girl a hopefully kind smile.
”Don’t mention it. Those guys were a bunch of idiots anyways.”
Kristen really hope this sort of thing was rare to happen at the university, because she would hate having to go to town every time she wanted to eat something. Although she partially wondered if the high school would let her eat there. Maybe she could sneak in, who knew? Although from the little grumble Kristen’s ears caught, she wasn’t the only one who’d be affected by the tomfoolery behind them.
“So much wasted food.”
Kristen felt a good deal of sympathy go out to Emma as Kristen’s own stomach was grumbling in protest. She thought for a few seconds before having an idea.
”Well,” She began, ”We could probably head to town to get something to eat. After washing off and getting changed of course, but still. Would you be ok with that? Hell, I'll even buy for you.”

Emma felt herself crumbling on the inside. She didn’t want to be here anymore. Even if there was a handful of kind people. What was she supposed to do? Avoid going to the dining hall for the rest of her time here (however long that is)? How was she supposed to eat? Not to mention, she was sure she’d see these troublemakers elsewhere.
The brunette gave a small nod in response to Kristen’s comment. They were a bunch of idiots. She couldn’t help but wonder if they were friends with the either group that had caused her trouble the other day. It would make sense if they were.
Emma’s grey eyes went wide hidden behind her oversized sunglasses. Leave? Leave and go to town? Anything Kristen said after that went unheard by the timorous girl. “Um uh, I-I-I don’t, um. I really don’t, uh, think, uh, I should leave. Um, yeah.” She said, voice shaky and she was trying to make a coherent sentence. She could wait until tomorrow for food. Right? Yeah she’s done that before. She was barely comfortable with leaving her dorm to wander about campus, let alone leave campus to wander the town below.
She watched as a handful of university staff rushed passed them. She had a feeling she knew where they were going.

“Um uh, I-I-I don’t, um. I really don’t, uh, think, uh, I should leave. Um, yeah.”
Kristen glanced over, her expression softening a little. She didn’t need amazing empathy to realize that Emma was either extremely nervous, shy, or both. It gave the girl a vulnerable air that oddly enough made Kristen instinctively feel protective of her. Usually the only one she got that way around was her own family, yet here she was faintly worried for a complete stranger. Although Emma seemed sweet enough that Kristen wasn’t too concerned with that.
”Well, you should definitely eat. That and shower.” She added with a glance down at herself. ”Yeah, definitely shower. That and get some laundry done.”
Kristen was mostly talking to herself with her last remark, although Emma would likely need to do the same. When the teachers came down the hall, Kristen moved to the side with Emma and hoped they didn’t stop the two of them. Luckily they passed by and Kristen sighed with relief.
”Yeah, we should get further away from there. Who knows? Maybe they’ll actually serve food later without complete chaos.”

Emma didn't move as the teachers ran by them, she didn't move as Kristen kept talking. The girl seemed to be trying to comfort her, relax her even. She knew she needed to shower and wash her food stained clothes, but she didn't really care much about that right now.
The brunette nodded each time Kristen spoke, she agreed, she knew she should, she just wasn't quite sure if she was actually going to. She wanted to thank the girl more than she did, but she couldn't seem to find the right words to say. Emma had wanted to blend in, not be seen, and she has manage to do the complete opposite of that.
Emma started walking slowly, getting further away from the scene of the crime. She kept her head down and her arms wrapped around her. "T-That would be, uh, nice." She said, wondering if there would ever be a day where the dining hall would be just for eating, and not throwing food. It was so...wasteful. "Is there...um. Somewhere else on campus we can get food?" She asked, her voice was starting to even out. Her hands fell to her stomach as she felt it grumble again. Kristen Norewood

"T-That would be, uh, nice.”
Once again Kristen stole a glance at Emma with a hint of concern. It was so painfully obvious that the girl was nervous and shy, and Kristen wished she had more charisma and understanding to make her more comfortable. However as it were Kristen knew she wasn’t the best person to “speak softly” when it came to shy people. So she wasn’t too sure what to say to Emma.
"Is there...um. Somewhere else on campus we can get food?”
The question gave Kristen something to think about. She was fairly new to the school herself, but figured there had to be something. Eventually she had an idea, although she wasn’t sure if it would work.
”Maybe we could head over to the high school? That or wait for the dining hall to clear out. I’m not sure which would be faster.”

Emma kept her head low, her eyes focused on only the hall ahead of her. Maybe she shouldn’t have asked for other food options. It wasn’t necessary really. She could just wait until breakfast tomorrow. Emma felt responsible now for disrupting whatever this girl had planned for the rest of her day. She was sure of one thing, it wasn’t to help out another student. Emma was certain that Kristen had better things to do with her time.
The answer had gotten her attention. “The high school?” She hadn’t thought about that, mostly due to the fact that she didn’t think they were allowed over there, and she was never one to break any rules. Although she was beginning to think that this place didn’t carry out punishment as harshly as the orphanage, but still, she wanted to remain a law abiding student.
“Aren’t we not allowed there?” She asked. “It’s really okay. I um, I’ll just eat later.” By later, she meant tomorrow.
