Tyler Bradley Redmond
Face Claim: Kit Harrington
————————————————
Age: 22, January 23
Gender: Male
Orientation: Heterosexual
Position: Special Police Force
Godly Inheritance: Demigod. Godly parent is Zeus
Power(s): Limited Flight, Inherent Ability to Lead, Truth Inducement, Bird Communication
Limited Flight:
He has feathered wings that make him capable of flight. They're interesting in that when he has them tucked away, they only look like a great tattoo of wings on his back. When he concentrates on the muscles around the tattoo though, they fold out. And then it doesn't take any concentration to keep them out, but it takes the same amount of concentration to turn them back into a tattoo. What he can carry depends on the weight of what he can carry when not flying: with just himself he can generally fly for about an hour, but that diminishes depending on how heavy his cargo is. For example, if he were to take a 150 lb weight, his arms might get tired of holding it, and he will also get tired more easily and not be able to fly for as long. An 150 lb weight would probably diminish his flight length to about fifteen minutes.
Inherent Ability to Lead:
When he speaks and makes orders, humans feel more inclined to obey. There's no guarantee they will, but it will be much like a gentle nudge towards listening. The same goes for demigods and demititans, only it's weak enough they could avoid it easily. Even humans are not forced to do anything. In addition, to make the influence valid he has to have a very clear vision in his mind of what the end result should be, and a path that should take. It is, by its nature, a strategist's power. If they make one different decision, it has little effect. But if they make two different decisions from his vision, the outcome becomes unpredictable. Unpredictability means he no longer has control over how his power behaves. They could become devoted followers, they could rebel against him, or the two parties could go their separate ways and never speak. He has to strategize in such a way that his subject doesn't want to make a different decision. Make it so his path looks more appealing. That is his 'inherent ability to lead'. The ability to influence his subject to see his path as more promising for themselves.
Truth Inducement:
Once again, truth inducement isn't as much a mind control as an influence on the brain. It makes the person want to tell the truth more. It's only a power of suggestion though, so people can still decide not to tell the truth, or tell half-truths. It doesn't rob them of their free will, and it doesn't act as a truth serum. Tyler often doesn't know if the subject of his power use is telling the truth or not. They can resist, or simply choose not to let it affect their decisions.
Bird Communication:
Simply put, this power allows Tyler to commune with birds. He can hold short conversations with them, but he can't necessarily speak their language as each bird species' language is different and he can't speak them all. That being said, he's able to understand the birds as long as he concentrates hard. He just can't necessarily answer back in their own language. The faster the birds speak though, the more difficult it is for him to understand. And the more he'd have to concentrate.
Limitations:
Limited Flight:
- can only fly when his wings are out
- the higher he goes, the harder it becomes for him to breathe because his lungs are still basically human
- length of the flight depends on his endurance, which is still human level
- takes time to open and fold wings: if he's already jumped off the top of a building, it would have to be a tall building for him to be able to save himself by opening his wings. Folding wings so a human doesn't see takes just as much time.
- what he can carry depends on the weight of what he can carry when not flying: with just himself he can generally fly for about an hour, but that diminishes depending on how heavy his cargo is. For example, if he were to take a 150 lb weight, his arms might get tired of holding it, and he will also get tired more easily and not be able to fly for as long. An 150 lb weight would probably diminish his flight length to about fifteen minutes.
- His wings are muscles like everything else. If he doesn't use them and exercise them, he wouldn't be able to fly for as long.
Inherent Ability to Lead:
- It is an influence over someone's decision making, not a forced mind control. He can't create a mindless army of drones.
- has to have a clear picture in his mind of each decision the person would make to reach the conclusion he wishes
- If they make two different decisions, the ability becomes unpredictable and could turn on him or work better, or do nothing at all.
Truth Inducement:
- has no effect on someone who was already planning to tell the truth
- since it's only a power of suggestion (see what I did there?), people can still decide not to tell the truth, or to only tell half the truth.
- Since there's still free will involved, in many cases Tyler will not know whether his power has worked or not. He's not a human lie detector, or a truth serum.
- Not as powerful as his other powers.
Bird Communication:
- Each bird species has a different language and to speak with them all, Tyler would have to learn each language individually. He can't, so he can only speak to some species
- His bird languages are limited in vocabulary because he's a beginning speaker
- Has to concentrate to understand the birds.
- The faster the bird speaks, the more difficult it is for him to understand and the harder he'd have to concentrate.
- if he doesn't speak a bird's language and they don't speak his, it can be difficult to get particular information from the bird and therefore he could become exhausted and not get any information at all
- All of Tyler's powers are not as powerful as they would on someone who had just those powers individually.
Side-Effects:
- molting occasionally
- breathlessness
- headaches from concentration
- can be a bit controlling where bad situations are concerned
- back muscles can get very sore under where his 'tattoo' is
- will sometimes mistakenly chirp instead of speaking English, because his brain categorizes bird languages the same as human, so sometimes he will slip up just like people who are multilingual
- mental drain from concentration
- physical drain if he flies for too long, or if he carries something while in flight
Height: 5'11"
Hair Color: Dark brown
Eye Color: Brown
Physical Description: Tyler's head is a head full of dark curls. He doesn't have any actual tattoos, but as far as humans know he has a large tattoo of a pair of wings on his back. That's how his wings show up when they aren't feathered wings. He has a small scar on his middle finger's middle knuckle from when he punched a mirror as a teenager. Tyler keeps his hair a bit longer than the typical guy because it's more comfortable and compliments his style. A style which is fairly casual unless he feels like dressing to impress. Or if he's working he might need to be dressier as well.
Personality: I like pranks. Creator of discord, that's me. Hey, no-one ever said that life was easy, and I plan to make sure everyone knows it. Just because I'm a Zeus kid and a Leclaire doesn't mean I'm a goody-goody by any stretch. Some people would probably call me a douchebag, or even an asshole. I suppose you could go with that, but I prefer to think of myself as simply a creative mind! Besides, it's so much easier not to care what anyone thinks of you, isn't it?
Another thing I am is confident. Or I try to exude that anyways. If you're confident, good things come your way. That's what my cousin Michel always tells me anyways. And if an asshole like him can maintain a great public standing with confidence, who am I to argue, right? I might be a bit afraid of turning into him, forgetting I'm not one of them, forgetting my parents. Forgetting my sister. Forgetting where I came from scares me if I'm being completely honest.
My intuition isn't bad either. I'm told I'm fairly perceptive. My ability to see other peoples' weaknesses isn't at a supernatural level, but hey I come from the Leclaire family so you learn to adapt to the nature of the beast.
Five (or more) Likes:
- Girls
- the reactions of people he pranks
- running, totally unrelated to the point above
- Pancakes
- listening to music
Five (or more) Dislikes:
- dishonesty: you might think this is really odd considering he's part of the Leclaires, but he has freaking truth inducement. Of course, do as he says not as he does. He has no problem lying himself.
- Yams
- Pumpkins
- His cousin Michel
- Fedoras
Secret(s): He's actually a decent guy under it all. That and he wants to change the prejudice against humans. Also, he's not as confident as he lets on. Oh, and he likes songs about female empowerment and whatever. And some K-Pop. He's not entirely sure why, but Pretty Girl Rock and Who's My Bitch make him feel like dancing.
Parents: Jeffrey Redmond, Roberta Redmond (nee Carson)
Siblings: Devon Redmond (sister - human)
Worthy Mentions: Cameron Redmond (aunt - demigod)
Michel Leclaire (cousin - Zeus inheritance)
Childhood: Tyler's childhood kind of starts before his birth. Before his conception even. You see, he's related to the Leclaire family. Yeah THAT Leclaire family. The one where the members put godsblood over pretty much anything else. Zeus specifically. Tyler's story begins with his mother, a Leclaire who didn't inherit the godsblood. She wasn't a demigod either. She was just a pure human, and in the Leclaire family that meant she was treated like dirt. But I know what you're thinking: her last name was Carson before she was married. While that's true, her grandmother was a Leclaire. So she was just related enough for them kicking her out officially to have an impact.
When she was finally happy with her life after being kicked out of the family, she settled down and married Jeffrey Redmond, a man in the upper tier of the social hierarchy. He was well-off, and they'd fallen in love too. Soon Roberta gave birth to a son. Tyler entered the world. A child by a different father strained relations between the parents for a little bit, but Jeffrey came to understand. What neither of them knew or understood was that news of them giving birth to a Zeus child had carried to the ears of the Leclaire family. From that point on, they kept an eye on the Redmond family.
Tyler grew up knowing that the Leclaire family had treated his mother like dirt. Understandably he held quite the grudge against them. That being said, his mother had still soaked up much of the propaganda from the Leclaires. He learned about the demigods and demititans, and developed a small bias against titans and their offspring. The divide would become larger as he grew older.
Adolescence:
I had a blissful year of peace. My thirteenth year was the last one I'd have with my parents. When I was fourteen, my Zeus godsblood awakened. But what my mother had taught me about the mythlogical heritage I was a part of would never prepare me for the sight of my dad's blood on the living room walls. I had just come home from school. I had no idea what had happened, but the police showed up to see a fourteen year old me sitting on the front step staring at nothing in particular. Blank gaze, apparently. The case is cold now. Unsolved. A recruiter showed up with the police. Apparently such a case is one they check out. My sister was sixteen at the time, and she came home from doing homework at a friend's house. Came home to police cars in our driveway and a younger brother who barely recognized her in the shock he was feeling. The shock I was feeling. Stuck in. No-one knows what happened to our mother. Presumed dead. She might still be out there somewhere, but we never blamed her for running. Anyone would in her position.
We all knew it was a monster. I had the blood of Zeus roaring through my veins, and it got my father killed. My sister and I then had a few relatives all wanting to raise us. Aunt Cameron took in my sister and I. When I was fifteen though, the Leclaires contested that. They didn't care about my sister, a human. But I was different. I was a child of Zeus. Aunt Cameron did her best to keep me, but when I was sixteen I moved in with Michel Leclaire. That's the last time I lived with my sister. I was able to visit, but that was it. I became a part of the Leclaire's business Ambrosia Aerospace. They told me many things, some of which I believed and some I didn't. I believed, for example, that titans were bad and their offspring wasn't to be trusted. I didn't believe that humans were scum of the earth. My mother hadn't been, and neither had my father. Neither was my sister. Having a Zeus family did help me learn more about my powers. I was an angry teen as a result of these combined factors, and I had to learn to control my temper. Sometimes I still have a bit of trouble, but the scar on my knuckle reminds me I need to. It came from when I punched a mirror thinking about my parents.
I moved into the highschool dorms and I did my best to just slide under the radar. Other than the pranks I pulled. Those were GLORIOUS. Ever bought women's perfume and lipstick, put some lipstick on your fingers and as you walked by a guy with a girlfriend, rubbed the lipstick on his neck and spritzed him with perfume? It's so much fun to watch the aftermath.
Adulthood: When I graduated at the grand age of 18 years old, I enrolled in the university. Oh, that and Michel Leclaire gave me a Ford Mustang as a graduation gift. I wasn't going to tell him my affections couldn't be bought when he was giving me a car. Sometimes the best way to escape can be given to you when you least expect it. Of course, after that I didn't necessarily want to escape either. After all, he was starting to trust me as a supervisor within Ambrosia Aerospace. If people are going to start trusting me, that puts me in a good position to change things gradually.
For a couple of years after that, the Leclaires wanted me to stay at home so with that car, I commuted to the school every day. When I hit 20 though, they had no control over where I stayed. Earlier I said it was the last time I lived with my sister. Wrong. Now that I was twenty and she was twenty two, we were room-mates for a while. Now that I'm twenty two though, she's dating. And while I'd like to chase away every guy who laid a hand on her, I decided to give her her space. And rather than move back into the den of lions that the Leclaire family is, I'm moving into the university dorms. What's the worst that can happen? Get paired with a dude instead of a hot chick?
Anyways, I've entered the Special Police Force, but I'm new. My experience training at the school will obviously help me along with my powers. We'll see how I do. I'm basically an apprentice right now anyway. I want to help prevent what happened to my dad from happening to anyone else. No kid deserves to come home only to discover they don't have parents.
