Felandria Natasha Leclaire
Face Claim:Eva Marie
————————————————
Age: 20 (June 23)
Gender: Female
Orientation: Bisexual
Position: University student
Godly Inheritance: Demigod. Daughter of Zeus
Power(s):
Inherent Ability to Lead: Felandria's voice has the ability to command the attention of a room, her voice changes and becomes more authoritavive and resplendant, allowing her to inspire loyalty and confidence in others.
(She didn't know what triggered the fight, but her team were practically at each other's throats.
There was name calling, hair pulling, threats to unleash powers...
Finally, she couldn't take it any more.
She shouted for them to stop.
And everyone stopped, caught off guard by the tone and tenor of her voice.
It surprised Felandria as well, she almost didn't recognize her own voice as it carried throughout the locker room, it had a bit of an echo to it as well.
As weird as it was, she shrugged it off and concentrated on dealing with the situation.
Stop fighting!
We are a team, we stick together.
Put the petty garbage aside and get over it.
We are supposed to be beyond that crap, we are all BETTER than that!
If we have issues with one another, we settle them in a civilized and dignified manner.
Is everyone with me?
The rest of the team almost immediately nodded to each other in agreement, there were handshakes and hugging and apologies.)
Electrokinesis: She can produce an electrical charge throughout her body, but cannot shoot the electricity in bolt form, the charge primarily manifests in her hands, it can be gentle enough to charge a cell phone, or powerful enough to knock out a foe (human sized)
She hopes to improve this ability, but is having difficulty, possibly the result of a mental block.
Limited Flight: Felandria focuses the electrical charge within her to lift herself off the ground and fly, but only for short periods of time.
When she flies, she cannot carry anyone or use her electrikinesis in any other way.
(Nobody was as surprised as she was when she discovered this ability, when she was told about powers, her mind immediately went to the superheroes she loved as a child, She Hulk was her favorite, but a close second was Superman, and when you hear the word "powers" being able to fly is the first thing that comes to mind.
So, one day she decided to see if she could.
She stood in the middle of the gym after it had emptied out, near a climbing rope, just in case, and she closed her eyes, she pictured herself slowly lifting off the ground, as if she were lighter than air, she attempted to be as calm and serene as possible, entering a kind of Zen state of tranquility.
Then she bonked her head on the ceiling, which tends to distract someone from their meditation.
Fortunately, she had thought to stand near that rope.
Unfortunately, rope burns hurt.)
Limitations:
Her three abilities are less powerful than any one power would be individually, and are difficult to use in conjunction with one another
Ability to Lead: Her ability to take charge and lead makes it harder for her to take orders, she's stubborn when she believes she's right.
She cannot actually control anyone with her voice, merely inspire them to believe in her leadership, she cannot make anyone do anything they don't want to do.
Electrokinesis: Her electrokinesis is ineffective if she is wet or unable to focus.
She cannot form bolts or projectiles currently (ba dum tss), she can only use it in combat by touching her opponent.
She cannot use electrokinesis while flying.
Limited Flight: She can only fly in short bursts, no more than a few minutes at a time as of now.
Flying requires significant concentration, and any major distraction could cause her to lose focus and fall.
Side-Effects:
Her imposing presence and commanding personality mean that she has to try not to intimidate people, and it is sometimes difficult for her to determine if someone is being honest or merely telling her what she wants to hear.
She has issues sleeping sometimes, as she dreams of flying through the clouds and starts to fly on her sleep, until she either hits the ceiling or drifts into a wall, it doesn't happen very often, but enough to be a problem.
She is afraid to swim, or go in the water, for fear of electrocuting herself or others.
The focus required to fly gives her headaches.
She has to be careful around electronics, unless they are properly shielded she risks accidentally overcharging them and blowing the battery.
Sometimes tv's and computer monitors can also act up near her if she is particularly emotional.
You know when you touch a doorknob and get that little shot of static electricity? It happens to her WAY more often.
Height:6'4"
Hair Color:Red
Eye Color:Violet
Physical Description: Lithe, athletic yet womanly, she has a small lightning bolt tattoo on her shoulder.
She trains in the gym regularly to stay in peak physical condition, focusing on stamina and mobility as opposed to pure strength training.
Her hair is long, flowing almost to her chest, and she is almost paranoid about using the right hair care products.
Personality:Charismatic and bold, she is the captain of the volleyball team for good reason, she is fiercely loyal to her friends, family and teammates but those who get on her bad side will feel her considerable wrath.
She tries not to look down on others, but won't hear anyone criticize her family or their (rightful, in her opinion) position.
Her childhood was difficult, but she has largely and deliberately put it out of her mind, and is extremely satisfied with her life, she is mostly quite happy and carefree, aside from the infrequent moments of nearly paralyzingly self doubt instilled in her by her mother, a voice in the back of her mind telling her she isn't good enough.
Five (or more) Likes: Clothing and shoes, especially heels (She's already tall, might as well...), movies, working out, board games, cooking.
Five (or more) Dislikes: Eggs, Condescending People, Those who abuse authority, Bugs and Spiders, Sexism
Secret(s): None that she knows.....
Parents: Sandra Dawkins (birth mother, disowned by Felandria)
Siblings: None on her birth mother's side.
Worthy Mentions:
Childhood:Sandra Dawkins never wanted children.
One night she was at a party and met a gorgeous older man, so worldly and sophisticated, so unlike the insufferable manchildren who hit on her earlier in the night.
They went back to her apartment, she felt safer in her own home than his place, it was sensual, it was passionate.
It was finite.
The next morning, he was gone, later she asked her friends about the man she left with, they had no clue what she was talking about.
Nine months later, as far as Sandra was concerned, her life was over.
She couldn't remember why she named the baby girl Felandria, the name was just bouncing around in her head, and it didn't matter, really, as the child was rarely referred to by her given name, more often, Felandria was "her", "you", or "it".
Sandra was deeply ashamed that she had allowed herself to be sullied and tainted, and she had a constant reminder of her biggest regret.
She looked at the adorable infant, suckling on her mother's teat, and she was ashamed, she sat there, thinking about how this thing was sucking the life right out of her.
Giving the child up for adoption was considered, but in the end, Sandra kept the girl, if for no other reason than to remind herself never to be that stupid again.
To Sandra Dawkins, Felandria was a burden, and she would never let her daughter forget that.
Adolescence: By age eight, Felandria was big enough to take care of herself, she was able to get dressed, pack her own lunch, and walk the ten blocks to school by herself, which meant Sandra didn't have to waste her time doing it for her.
Felandria was starting to understand that the way her mother acted towards her wasn't natural and Felandria wasn't sure what, exactly, she was doing wrong.
But she managed to put those thoughts aside once she got to school, she liked school, it was fairly easy, or at least easier than home, she had friends there, people who were actually happy to see her.
Still, she couldn't help but be down on herself, after all, maybe her mother was right....
Life continued on, the summer she turned fourteen, she said goodbye to her friends, eager to see them again once they started high school.
Her mother sent her away to a ten week summer camp, as Felandria gave her mother a hug, which was not reciprocated, Sandra couldn't help but notice that her daughter was nearly as tall as she was, which irritated her a little.
"Well, dear, hopefully you'll get plenty of exercise at camp, you're getting a little big, you know."
Even Sandra didn't know why she said things like that, it was almost instinctual, almost like her daughter was her most bitter rival, and she almost felt bad, deep down, but she shook the guilty feelings aside and guided her daughter onto the bus.
Camp was the happiest time Felandria had ever had, she got along with most of the other campers, she was having so much fun that she didn't even notice puberty taking hold of her.
On the last weekend, she started to feel odd, some of the other girls were giving her sideways glances, and several of the boys would get weird when she talked to them.
She stood at the lakeside, watching the sunset, feeling the wind on her face, when the wind started to pick up, and a storm began to brew, on the other side of the lake, she could swear she saw a large animal, and it was looking directly at her, watching her with great interest.
She anxiously turned away and saw something rustling in nearby bushes, she heard an unnatural growling as the wind continued to howl, she was scared and backed away slowly, until she saw the glowing red eyes.
As it began to rain surprisingly hard, she turned and ran as fast as she could back to her cabin and pushed her body against the door to hold it closed, she heard the growling get louder, whatever was out there was getting closer.
It was coming for her.
That's when she heard what sounded like lightning outside, followed by a panicked yelp, the growling ceased and she heard the creature run away.
She slid down to the floor, relieved, yet very confused.
When the bus arrived back from camp, Sandra wasn't there to pick her up, luckily, another camper's parents gave her a ride home.
Felandria walked into her apartment to find her mother cooking dinner.
"I'm home, mom."
Sandra turned around and dropped the spoon she was holding.
The girl Sandra saw get on the bus wasn't a girl anymore.
Sandra managed to regain her composure after a moment.
"Get changed out of that and get cleaned up for dinner.
Look at you, you're a disaster."
Felandria nodded and went to her room to change, she noticed that the majority of her clothes didn't fit her anymore, but she found a tee shirt and some sweats and threw them on.
When she came back out, her mother looked at her, shook her head and sighed.
"Sit down, I made fettuccini.
No sauce, though, you need to watch what you eat."
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Get the door, I'm plating."
When Felandria opened the door, a man stood there in a finely tailored business suit.
"You MUST be Felandria, how are you, my dear?
Allow me to introduce myself, I'm with Olympus Falls, we wish for you to attend our school, effective immediately.
Please, both of you, have a seat.....
Sandra scoffed.
"Look, I don't know who you think you are, but...."
Sit down, please.
They both took a seat on the couch.
"Now then, allow me to explain."
And so he did, he told her about the school, about Corinth, about her father.
About who and what she was.
Suddenly everything clicked in her mind, everything made perfect sense to her now, her entire life, everything she felt, it all fell into place.
She stood up from the couch and went into her room.
Sandra just sat there, in shock.
It simply wasn't possible.
Felandria came out of her room a few minutes later, carrying several canvas bags containing most of her belongings, aside from the ill fitting clothes she would need to replace anyway.
She turned to the man from the school.
"So, can we leave now?"
"Of course, Felandria, the limo is waiting downstairs."
She smiled and headed towards the door.
Sandra stood up and walked towards her daughter.
"Where do you think you're going, young lady?"
Felandria turned and looked down at her mother.
No, not her mother, not really, just some woman who raised her, a real mother wouldn't have treated their child the way this woman had.
She looked at her with a calm expression and no emotion in her voice.
"Home."
"You can't just leave, you're only fourteen"
Now a trace of anger entered the demigoddess's voice.
"Isn't this what you wanted?
You should be happy, after all, you'll never have to see me again.
And you never will."
Felandria made her way to the door.
"Felandria Dawkins, you get back here...."
Felandria stepped out of the apartment and never looked back.
The recruiter followed behind and closed the door, not even acknowledging Sandra.
And Sandra Dawkins stood there, having gotten the thing she wanted for fourteen years.
She no longer had a daughter.
And for the first time since she was a child, she allowed herself to cry.
For thirty years, she blamed everyone else for what had happened, her birth parents, the man at the party, her own child.
But now, she had no one left to blame.
Adulthood:
Upon arriving at Olympus Falls, Felandria was amazed at how nice the facility was, her heart leapt in her chest at her new home and her new life.
The Lecaires had discovered the existence of the young scion of Zeus a few weeks prior, and once they had investigated how poorly the girl had been treated, they immediately sent for her.
It simply would not stand for a descendant of Zeus to be treated like.....well, like a demititan.
Once she arrived, she was greeted by one of the teachers, who welcomed her with open arms, giving her a big hug.
He explained her that since her father was, in fact, the ruler of Olympus, the Leclaires wished for her to be brought here and taken care of.
"But why are the Leclaires interested in me? I've never even met them."
"That's one of the things I wished to discuss with you.
Your mother, she was born from a Leclaire, but she was given up for adoption.
Her mother was impregnated by a human man, and once it became clear that she was not..... that she was human, her mother gave her up for adoption.
I know that may sound a bit harsh, but to be perfectly blunt, it was felt that being a human raised amongst demigods would have not been a suitable life for her, she would have been somewhat of an outcast and her mother felt she would be happier amongst her own kind.
But then, years later, she encountered the man who would be your father.
Zeus.
And once our researchers informed us of the situation, and after what happened at your camp, we came to find you immediately."
"How did he find me so fast?"
"Well, as you may suspect, with technology these days, it's fairly easy to keep track of potential demigods, but I hope you don't mind if we prefer to keep some sense of mystery."
"Okay, I think I understand, except, you keep saying us and we...."
"Yes, Felandria, my name is Stephen Leclaire.
And as of this moment, you are officially a Leclaire as well."
Felandria could only do one thing at that moment, she hugged the man tightly and started to cry tears of joy and relief.
"Think nothing of it, dear.
This is where you belong."
Over the next six years, Felandria studied hard, and she trained harder, she learned everything she could about the history of Corinth and Olympus Falls, about the gods and the Titans, about what was coming.
She learned about her family, and the importance of the name Leclaire, and she vowed to herself she would do everything she could to honor it, she was proud to be a Leclaire and she would make sure they were proud she was as well.
She immediately took an interest in athletics, she was an obvious fit for basketball, but she gravitated more towards volleyball, and she was a natural, by junior year, she was team captain, her innate leadership instincts made her team nearly unstoppable.
After she moved on to the university, she gave thought to what she wanted to do after, whether it was a job at Ambrosia Aerospace or perhaps something more suitable to her talents, she hoped she would figure that out soon, before graduation.
All the while, she honed her abilities, learning to fly was at once a little scary and yet amazing because, you know, being able to FLY is pretty cool.
She also learned to manipulate electricity, she wasn't exactly throwing lightning bolts yet, but it was still rather amazing to her nonetheless.
Sample:
Felandria Leclaire stood in front of the mirror, studying.
The last few weeks had been very strange for her.
Imagine being told your entire life that you aren't special, that you're useless and dim and plain, eventually it becomes your truth, regardless of the evidence to the contrary.
Her grades were good, not great or spectacular, but good.
She has strived to be average, to blend in, to be like everyone else.
Not because she didn't want to be more, but because she didn't even consider that to be a possibility.
And now she was a demigod.
Well, clearly she always had been in a technical sense, but a few weeks ago she was an only child to a mother who didn't seem to like her, with a life of anonymity to look forward to.
Now she was the daughter of a Greek God, a member of a wealthy, powerful family, learning how to protect herself from monsters.
It was hard to reconcile, although not as hard to reconcile as the person she saw in the mirror.
She studied her reflection honestly, she barely recognized herself, at camp, there was hardly the need for vanity, she was too busy enjoying herself.
The girl she was looking at was a stranger, it was almost like she had woken up one morning in someone else's body.
She liked what she saw, however, she saw a strong, beautiful young woman, and had to come to terms with everything that had changed for her.
And so she stood there, for the next two hours, silently staring into her own eyes, one single thought repeating in her head.
"This is who you are."
She knew she could no longer be who she was, the girl that her own mother didn't love, the girl who never thought she would amount to anything.
But this girl, she wanted desperately to be her, and she was on the outside, but not inside.
"This is who you are."
For the next several weeks, she stood in front of the mirror, looked herself in the eyes, and repeated her mantra.
Eventually, she spent less time there every day, until she stopped entirely, because eventually Felandria didn't need to anymore.
Because she finally knew who she was.
