"My fight is won, who needs a gun? Boom boom knock you out! You knocked me down, but who's laughing now? Boom boom knock you out!"
Honestly the irony of the lyrics would’ve hit Kristen harder if she was paying better attention. As it were, she was more focused on pummeling the punching bag set before her. Even though her transfer into the school had been pretty much life-changing, Kristen didn’t want to forgo her kickboxing. Besides that was apparently her “power” anyways; something she still wasn’t completely sold on. So she could learn combat skills faster than most people; big whoop. In her eyes that didn’t necessarily mean she was the daughter of some god. Although from what she’d seen so far there were other kids with powers that definitely screamed “magic.”
"But I get stronger everyday! One wrong will be all it takes. My power's fed by your hate! One wrong will be all it takes.”
Kristen swung her leg up in a kick that made the sack rock violently on the chain. She was sweating from how long she’d been at it, and figured now would be as good as any to take a break. Yanking out her headphones, Kristen untangled the cord from around her arm. Although the prickling feeling of eyes on her turned her head to find someone nearby and looking. Kristen knew she wasn’t alone in the gym but she was still surprised to find someone near her.
”If you want to use this don’t worry I was leaving.”
The university gym was definitely something to brag about, and since she had teacher access, Echo used it whenever she could. There was something about the college gym that just seemed better than the high school one. It could have simply been because here, Echo could be around people close to her own age, rather than stunted children.
Dressed in her regular workout tank and briefs with the earbuds of her headphones tucked into her bra so they wouldn't tangle, she could probably pass as any other college student. Considering she'd never actually gone to college, and didn't like talking to people besides, it was a nice disguise to put on every now and then to avoid responsibility. Which was why she was currently staring longingly at the punching bag, waiting impatiently for its current user to up and disappear. Not that she didn't take a good long minute to analyze the girl's skills and technique while she was waiting.
Moving in eagerly, Echo began cracking her knuckles under the laced gym gloves. She certainly wasn't going to pass up that invitation, and started rocking punches almost as soon as the other girl was safely out of range. Unfortunately she couldn't resist looking over her arm, eyes gleaming a she quipped, "What? So tired after those baby kicks? What are they teaching you here"

"What? So tired after those baby kicks? What are they teaching you here”
Kristen paused and turned her head back to regard the stranger. She hadn’t heard a sassy quip like that since she’d gotten to the school, but it was actually refreshing. A smirk grew on her face and she turned a little more to watch Echo’s form.
”Not exactly sure. Haven’t been here long.” She answered truthfully. ”Where’d you learn then, huh? If my kicks are so babyish and you’re obviously such a master if you can tell.”
Kristen’s words were definitely teasing, if a little bit taunting. She wasn’t looking for a fight per say, but the other woman had been the first one to initiate the banter. There was no way Kristen was going to back down from that. Besides, she was genuine curious now to see how the other girl fought. Maybe due to her abilities or simply her personality, she was always interested n other fighting styles. She watched the woman intently, evaluating and contemplating her form. A part of her realized she ought to mention her name or something like that.
Echo was surprised the girl hadn't disappeared after her little jab, but pleasantly so. She planted her foot and spun in a wide kick, hoping to get another glimpse of her without having to actually stop her workout. Now behind the bag and facing towards her, the blonde smirked. "Old Jackie Chan movies of course," she retorted sarcastically, knocking the bag aside then following with an open-palm strike. Most of the moves she was practicing appeared purely defensive, deflective strikes then more of the open-hand jabs. It probably looked strange, but then, the style was supposed to be paired with a pair of push-daggers, and taking a pair of sharp blades to town on a punching bag was just a waste of money.
She continued with the movements, dancing around the bag as she talked. Now that she'd gotten a proper look at the girl she was conversing with it didn't seem necessary to maintain eye-contact. She'd come here to fight, not chat. Echo bared her teeth; it was about as close to a smile as she would come during fighting. To hear someone return her snark instead of turning defensive was refreshing, and saved her a headache she didn't need.
"Echo," she puffed in reply, flicking her fringe out of her eyes. She'd already noted that her breathing was becoming ragged as she exerted herself, probably not helped by the fact that she was talking. She'd heard of a technique, running while singing to improve lung capacity and stamina, and if she was getting winded from idle chatter, it was perhaps something to investigate further. "You a student?"

"Old Jackie Chan movies of course.”
Kristen actually snorted at Echo’s response. A grin quickly formed on her face from the obvious wit and sarcasm in the other woman. She didn’t seem that much older than Kristen, so she wasn’t sure if Echo was a student or staff member. Whatever the case, she might actually hope to see more of the girl.
”Did you do extra practice with Bruce Lee films then?
If this woman was sending out little jabs, Kristen was all too happy to return them. Besides she had to admit Echo’s response had been pretty good in the first place.
”Echo. You a student?”
Kristen was only vaguely impressed that Echo was still chatting while exercising, but according to some that only served to make it more challenging. Kristen herself had done it whenever her little brother ended up watching her practice. She smiled faintly at the though but it soon left. She nodded out of habit to Echo's question, then realized the girl might not be paying attention.
”I am. Something tells me you aren’t?” Kristen guessed, blowing some hair out of her face. ”If I had to guess you’re either a trainer or a very enthusiastic PE teacher.”

She let out a noncommittal hum, not agreeing but not exactly disagreeing with the quip either. She was at a half-way point between being amused by the conversation, and being not at all invested. If nothing else she was impressed with Kristen's wit. "Sylvester Stallone is where things get really interesting," she promised with a dry chuckle.
Echo stopped her dancing, fists still up but in a relaxed position. She turned her full attention to Kristen, a smirk on her sharp features. "Trainer." A PE teacher was something she definitely couldn't handle. She much preferred giving personal attentions to students she'd picked herself; once she actually saw talent in.
"You one of Ares' kids? I only really see brats of that muscle-head kicking the leather like you were." It was supposed to be a compliment, or at least as close to one as she could come. Echo crossed her arms over her chest and once again looked Kristen up and down. "What do you want out of it, strength? Power? Or do you just punch stuff because 'daddy's blood tells me to'?"

"Sylvester Stallone is where things get really interesting.”
Kristen snickered and shook her head, smirking at the other girl’s comment. She was growing increasingly glad she’d tried out the gym that day.
”I’ll take your word on that. I’ve seen some of his.”
Kristen wasn’t the biggest movie fan, but Mikey always managed to drag her out to watch one with him. A few times he’d even managed to get her to go with him to the nearest cinema. A faint smile tugged at her lips without her realizing.
"Trainer."
Kristen nodded, the answer her first guess once she’d asked. Although she hadn’t been there long, Kristen was starting to pick up some of the different things about the school.
"You one of Ares' kids? I only really see brats of that muscle-head kicking the leather like you were.”
Kristen raised an eyebrow, unsure whether that was a compliment or a slight jab. From the limited interaction she’d had with Echo so far, Kristen could only assume it was a combination of both in some way.
"What do you want out of it, strength? Power? Or do you just punch stuff because 'daddy's blood tells me to’?”
She had to chuckle and shake her head. Other’s might’ve been offended, but Kristen only found the quips against her “daddy” funny. Since it was his blood that had both gotten Kristen and her family into a mess and supposedly out of it, she had no idea how she should regard Ares himself. Was she supposed to be grateful? Was she supposed to be angry? Were people expecting her to care at all? Kristen sure hoped not, otherwise a lot of people would be disappointed.
”Considering it was his 'blood' in me that got my family in trouble, I figured I should make good use of it and learn how to actually protect them.” She replied, being surprisingly honest with the girl she’d only just met. ”If I’m stuck with these ‘powers’ or whatever, I might as well give them a purpose. Preferably not a shitty one like 'punching shit because daddy's blood tells me to.'”
