History of Olympus Falls
There are many different stories of exactly what happened between the Titans and the gods, and this is ours.
After the Titanomachy, the great war between the Titans and the Gods, the Titans believed to be imprisoned in Tartarus were actually cursed to live mortal lives. Their powers completely stripped from them and, left only with their memories to punish them with the knowledge of how far they had fallen, they were exiled to Earth. Prometheus was eventually given the same punishment for daring to steal fire from Olympus.
The curse, however, didn’t take into consideration that these Titans might have children by other mortals. The demi-Titans, as they came to be known, had a portion of their parent’s old powers and when the gods found out the results of their careless oversight, they attacked the Demi-Titans with a vengeance. All of the Titans' children were immediately slain as soon as they were discovered. However, Eleos, the god of mercy and compassion, begged for Zeus to show mercy to those who had nothing to do with their parent’s crimes.
Relenting, Zeus allowed the Titans’ children to exist, but only under close watch. The consequences for stepping outside of the rigid lines drawn to allow their mere existence were harsh, and death was still a common threat. Over the centuries some have tried to rebel, while others have bided their time, and yet others managed to find their own happiness even in such a grim regime.
The cruelty eventually faded, as even with the powers of their parents, without the actual Titans to back them up, even the strongest rebel demi-titan was no match for the full force of the gods. Demititans are still very much looked down on and considered to be second-class citizens however, and there is quite a bit of contention between them and their godly counterparts. Millenia passing hasn’t even begun to tame the fire between them.
While all of this was happening, science and other religions grew in strength and favor while the Greek gods were forgotten. Most humans now have no clue that the gods and titans still exist amongst them.
Modern Era
Two powerful and prominent families grew to gain fame and fortune in the recent decades. The Reyes own the massive shipping establishment, the Skylla Trading Company and they have become an international name to be respected and admired. The Reyes' wealth and influence reaches far and their recent forays into Marine Military Technology has greatly expanded their market, though it remains a small part of their overall corporation. Their leader's close ties to Poseidon are unknown by the humans they work with.
The only name that holds more power than Reyes is Leclaire. The Leclaires have been involved in many things over the years, from complex aerospace engineering, to private airlines, to now focusing almost completely on Aviary Arms and Technology for the military. Their company, Ambrosia Aerospace, employs millions and has a very influential pull in the human governments as well as Olympus Falls. The Leclaires, like the Reyes, keeps their ties to Zeus a secret that only those who are fellow demigods or a rare few trusted human friends are aware of. Both the Reyes and Leclaire children attend Olympus Falls.
The school of Olympus Falls was built near the top of the dormant Seleucia Volcano on an island formed by Hepheastus himself, off the coast California. The gods, who'd been warned of a war by the Fates themselves, decreed it should educate both demigod and demititan alike to the outrage of both communities. Olympus Falls is funded by both the Reyes and Leclaire families, though Alfred Leclaire is the reigning Headmaster. Olympus Falls overlooks the sprawling city of Corinth beneath and the ocean lining the island is visible from dorm windows.
Demigods wanted nothing to do with the children of those who’d so severely persecuted their parents and Demititans were threatened with being dubbed as traitors and insurrectionists if they didn’t attend. The punishments were severe indeed for those on both sides who refused to comply. As the fates hadn't foretold any mere war, but a war that the gods might lose if they continued to alienate those born to the titans.
There are also reasons to attend outside of the gods' threatened punishments. Monsters can smell the blood of Titans and Gods in those who were born to them, and the monsters are even more attracted to those with more power and god blood. Typically between the ages of 14-18 is when the children find out that there's something more than human in their veins. Unfortunately so do the monsters, and since those children hardly have any control over their newfound powers, they are prime targets and very easy prey.
Olympus Falls appeared to be a private school for rich or talented children to the human citizens of Corinth beneath. They have no clue just how close they are to a conflict that's been seething for centuries.
The Titans haven’t merely been content to sit by and take the punishment dealt to them either. They’ve slowly been working to take back what was once theirs, especially the powers that were so brutally seized from them. Retribution would be harsh indeed should the Titans rise once more, so the gods and their children have every reason to be on edge.
There’s a war brewing and both sides can feel it. Which side will you choose?
